All you should know about food allergy

The reports say that most Americans are having an allergy to at least one substance. According to that report, the number of people suffering from allergy is going to rise in the coming years too. Allergy is something which happens when your immune system, which is meant to fight from the foreign elements, starts giving false alarm. This false alarm would make you sneeze or would cause you a running nose.

Allergy is caused by two things; environment or gene. The environment may include the changing climate, dust or even enough of cleanliness. Whereas, one a parent is suffering from one kind of allergy, then the kid has chances of getting allergy through genes. It was found that maximum numbers of kids are allergic to food and to be specific, peanuts.

Food allergy, as the name suggests, is caused by the eating certain kinds of food to which your immune system will react oppositely. This could cause indigestion problem, hives or even swollen airways. But normally, the symptoms are mild but some can get serious troubles from certain food.


Food allergy can happen to anyone, be it a full grown adult or a young kid. It is important that you understand the symptoms so that you can take necessary treatment within the time frame. Those who are suffering from food allergy would have swelling of lips, tongue, face, throat or other parts of the body.

Not only this, a person may also have breathing problems, abdominal pain, dizziness, hives, nausea, vomiting or lightheadedness. Sometimes, in some people, this can trigger to more complex problems like shock, with a severe drop in blood pressure, or rapid pulse. It is important that you understand these symptoms and take necessary steps.


Understanding the symptom is nice but then one needs to understand the kinds of food which are normally the culprit behind it. Normally, a person can get food allergy from peanuts, fish, eggs, tree nuts, shellfish like lobster and crab.

While in children eggs, milk, tree nuts, peanuts and wheat can be the cause of food allergy.

Risk factors:

As we said, people can get allergy through genes. Those who have a history of asthma, hive, eczema or other allergy in the family are at a risk of getting food allergies. In some cases, it was found that the allergy might go after some time but can again return back later in life.

Also, if you already have an allergy then you are also at a risk of getting food allergy too. It also happens that kids and infants are allergic to certain food. But with time, as they grow old, these allergies go away as the digestive system improves and is able to digest food properly. But there are certain severe allergies or even nuts or shellfish allergies will be there with you for the rest of your life.

It is important that you notice the change in your body when you eat certain food. If you’re able to find out that which food allergy you’re suffering from, you could be able to take care of yourself. You can also visit the doctor and find out the proper treatment or medication for certain allergy.
